In the religions of ancient Near East, light symbolized truth, knowledge, wisdom, guidance, and hope. So when the Book of Genesis 1:3 declares, “Let there be light,” the verse points beyond physical light. It signals the arrival of divine wisdom, the moment understanding breaks through darkness. This is a similar message: prosperity begins with financial knowledge.
What is financial knowledge, why does it come first and what do we gain?
WHAT IS FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE?
Investopedia has a page dedicated to financial knowledge. It sums up the concept as the facts, information, and understanding we gain about managing money well. That knowledge covers the essentials: budgeting, saving, managing debt, investing, earning income, and planning for retirement. Without it, our financial lives can easily spiral into chaos, bringing not just money problems, but stress and emotional strain too.
WHY DOES IT COME FIRST?

Of course, financial knowledge has to be the first step toward prosperity. It replaces financial confusion with clarity and helps us see where our money comes from, where it goes, and the habits shaping our finances—such as overspending or lifestyle creep. With this understanding, we can manage our money wisely and build long-term security. Without it, even a high income can be wasted because there is no clear plan. But with awareness, money becomes a tool for freedom, stability, growth, and lasting prosperity.
WHAT WILL WE GAIN?
Knowing about money is power. When we understand how our income, spending, saving, and debt work together, we take control of our financial lives. The knowledge gives us the clarity to make smart choices, skip the habits that drain our pockets, and plan for what’s ahead. We also gain discipline, confidence, and a sense of responsibility. We stop reacting to money problems and start anticipating them. Over time, we build savings, cut unnecessary debt, and open doors to new opportunities.
In the end, financial know-how isn’t just about money; it’s our pathway out of poverty, and towards financial stability, security, and lasting prosperity.
